Letter: Thanks, Malibu

Many years ago my oldest daughter was accepted at Pepperdine University. We are from a very small community in northern California and never expected this opportunity for our child.

On an early visit there, I was playing in the ocean with my youngest daughter and we were both enjoying the waves. A woman approached and advised me that what we were doing was actually very dangerous, and suggested we move to safer place.

My oldest daughter is now a prosecutor, and my youngest a nurse practitioner — both graduates of Pepperdine. I have always regretted not thanking that woman enough — I was ignorant and embarrassed — but she probably saved us from certain injury.

I cannot thank her, but instead encourage the people of Malibu to continue to watch out for visitors and somewhere, somehow, I hope the woman I met is rewarded.

Thanks, Malibu. My kids spent nine years there and are amazing adults. We are not rich financially, but so rich in blessings.
