Various traffic disruptions due to scheduled construction are set to to take place throughout Malibu from March through August 2014, according to traffic advisories recently published by the City of Malibu.
Kanan Dume Road will be closed periodically from March through June near its intersection with Pacific Coast Highway while the Kanan Dume Road gravel arrester bed is replaced. The arrester bed functions as an escape for runaway trucks going down Kanan Dume Road toward PCH, and its improvement is scheduled to be completed this summer.
Commuters on Wildlife Road and Whitesands Place should expect periodic lane closures and subsequent delays from March through August 2014 as those roads are closed for a storm drain improvement project. The project, which seeks to reduce residential water waste and to help eliminate dry weather urban runoff, will include the installation of biofiltration systems to intercept and treat stormwater runoff, thereby protecting the Area of Special Biological Significance along the coast of Malibu.
The City of Malibu also plans to improve the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Big Rock Drive, which will require periodic lane closures from March to June. This project will add a signal for left turns on the eastbound lane of PCH, and will also improve handicap curb ramps.
