Malibu yoga teacher Natalie Backman joined hundreds of yoga practitioners for an 11-day event to practice Rudra Yaga with the Himalayan Institute, which is a community of yogis, volunteers and others, per its website.
Backman spent three weeks in Northern India—mostly in the state of Uttar Pradesh. In addition to practicing Rudra Yaga, she attended the Kumbh Mela—“the largest spiritual gathering in the world,” she wrote in an email.
The yoga teacher also had the chance to explore many temples, attend ceremonies and explore Indian cities.
