Jeff Runyan and son London are tossing and turning in the human gyroscope ride during Our Lady of Malibu School’s Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17.

The smell of barbecue wafted down Winter Canyon Road, beckoning those who passed by to join the festivities at Our Lady of Malibu (OLM) School’s eighth annual Fall Festival last Saturday.

Malibu locals and visitors alike brought family and friends to join the fun. Activities for the day included a mechanical bull, human gyroscope ride, climbing rock wall, miniature golf, arts and crafts, and a haunted house with two choices of fright. Proceeds from the festival support programs at OLM, including art, robotics, instructional materials and the foreign language program.

“Tammy Arlidge and Bonnie Flores spearheaded this event for the eighth consecutive year,” OLM School Principal Michael Smith said. “The generous donations from our families and friends, as well as the long hours put in by volunteers, made this such a fantastic event.”

Entertainment at the festival included local Dance Star dancers, who performed their first show of the fall season, as well as Lenny Goldsmith and The New Old band. Goldsmith attends the Fall Festival with his family and grandchild Olivia, and he shared he was happy to perform to benefit the school.

“Children create enlightenment,” Goldsmith said. “They listen honestly … except when there’s more than two. My love for children is lifelong.” The band performed for hours as people danced and enjoyed live entertainment while sipping on refreshments from the “Bar Nun” booth, which served drinks like Sister Mary Margarita, Sister Bridget Chardonnay and Father Bill Beer, closing down the Fall Festival until next year.
