A State Parks ranger fatally shot a man driving toward him on Saturday at Tapia Park. The ranger was in the area to investigate reported gunfire.
Al Pepito, State Parks superintendent for the Malibu Sector, told the Associated Press that the unidentified ranger feared for his life when the driver of the car ignored his command to stop. The ranger then fired one shot, which killed the driver.
A Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s official told The Malibu Times that three men fled the car following the shooting. Two were later caught, and a third remained missing as of Sunday morning.
The names of the man killed and his three passengers were not released. There has been no word whether the gunfire being investigated by the ranger was related to the occupants of the car.
