An eye for beauty

Government bureaucracy and enforcement has, once again, run amok in Malibu. A number of people have very attractive “landscape art” (for lack of a better term) fronting some of our busy streets, including PCH and Kanan Road.

Recently, one such display was ordered to be removed as a violation of Malibu’s sign ordinance because it happened to be in the form of a company logo. How many actually recognized this as a company logo? How many associated it with the treatment center that owns the property? To me, it was an attractive display alongside an otherwise pretty dreary stretch of PCH. And now, by order of the City, the property owner has removed the attractive rock and flower display and returned it to the plain and dreary dirt embankment that was there previously.

I, for one, appreciate their attempt to make their PCH frontage attractive to passers-by. It is unfortunate that our City sees it differently!
