Better safe then sorry

It is obvious that John (Stesney) doesn’t read the signs on PCH at each end of Malibu that state “Trucks – Local Deliveries Only.” Yes, truck drivers deliver the merchandise to the stores in Malibu, but that is the only way that a truck driver can enjoy the view of the ocean from their vehicle legally. The State of California closed the highway to trucks more than 20 years ago. Why? Safety for the automobiles backing out of their driveways along PCH. Also, the road isn’t wide enough in some places for 18-wheelers and autos to share the road safely.

Now to address the bicyclists, they pay no road tax, they don’t shop in Malibu (except for a mocha or something) and they do pose a hazard on PCH. They do not obey the Vehicle Code that states single file except when passing and as far to the right of the roadway as possible. If they can’t ride to the right of the roadway because of their delicate tires they need to purchase a stronger and more durable tire. They don’t stop at stoplights, they ride the bicycle in the crosswalks (sometimes against the traffic) and they are just plain rude to the other vehicles that they are supposed to share the road with.

As for my position on the bicyclist, it’s a great sport if it is done safely and with respect for the other vehicles on the road. I don’t feel that the road is mine alone. However, I do feel that the bicyclist should be restricted from PCH for safety reasons.
