The MalibuGreenMachine is grateful for the ongoing coverage The Malibu Times extends to our highway enhancement project on PCH. However, your most recent story about our beginning construction requires a few updates. We don’t want anyone to be disappointed, but the initial phase of the project does not go from “Cross Creek to a mile and a quarter up the hill past Pepperdine University and extend to John Tyler Drive.” Pepperdine never signed on as a participant, so two years ago we pulled the project back to Malibu Canyon.
When it became clear this summer that in this difficult climate we would have trouble raising the full $1.5 million, we scaled the project back. The first phase starts at Cross Creek and extends to Webb Way. The wavy pavers were originally going to be blue to reflect the ocean. However, to tie in with the design of Cross Creek Road and Legacy Park, the color palette was changed to earth tones.
During the next six weeks of construction, we invite the community to watch the exciting progress we’re making on the highway.
