Letter: Standing Up For Malibu First

I am a third generation Malibu resident, raising a 4th generation. Malibu is my home and my history. It holds significant meaning for me and I owe this city a debt of gratitude.

It’s important to me to stand up for Malibu and the reasons we became a city; to retain local control on all issues and to protect it from outside agencies that don’t have the resident’s or the City’s best interests at heart. Growth should be in line with our mission statement and the right growth for a city as uniquely special as Malibu.

This means challenging the sewers that are being rushed through, the overdevelopment that follows, and the unfair assessments that will be forced upon surrounding residents. This is why Malibu became a city—to fight the sewers – and here we are again.

I will work to secure a safer PCH by addressing non-compliant businesses that are responsible for traffic and public safety issues. I am a large proponent of transparency at City Hall and am passionate about engaging the community in shaping Malibu’s future so it is a reflection of the many, not the few — and I am excited to start that process by assembling task forces and committees that involve the citizens of Malibu with particular expertise. And with a child currently enrolled in Malibu schools, the issue of toxins needs to stay at the forefront of the conversation.

Hamish Patterson and I love this town and we can be counted on to stand up for Malibu First. We are in the 11th hour — the clock is ticking. Let’s work together to leave a legacy worthy of our children and ensure Malibu’s future is in the spirit of that.
