Underprivileged children learn to play the violin at the second Annual Safety Harbor Kids Spirit of Goodwill Holiday Party.

One hundred twenty local orphans, homeless and foster care children ages six to 17 were treated at the second Annual Safety Harbor Kids Spirit of Goodwill Holiday Party, put on by local nonprofit Safety Harbor Kids with the help of more than 80 volunteers, to help disadvantaged children within 50 miles of Malibu.

“These children really have it rough,” SHK President Petrie Alexandra Williams said. “We bring them to a beautiful place and show them a way through music, art, college and career. It’s really working-I can see their personalities begin to come out at each event as they are learning.”

The party featured a holiday dinner and a multitude of activities including a professional photography class, the building of their own custom, wood picture frames, gift-filled stockings from Santa and his elves, musical performances by the Safety Harbor Kids Travelin’ Band, the Malibu Chamber Players of “Appalachian Duets” and the Malibu Coast Children’s Choir, and music lessons on various instruments such as the violin, guitar and drums.
