Hail, conquering heroes

On the Fourth of July, the City of Malibu sponsored Heroes Day at Bluffs Park to honor all the heroes that protect the citizens of Malibu. Mayor Jeff Jennings suggested that we rename Bluffs Park “Heroes Park.” At the next council meeting, I will introduce a motion that will, hopefully, make that happen.

We would like to thank Brent Holman and Steve Johnson from Malibu’s adopted Alpha Company (2nd Battalion of the 327th Infantry of the 101st Airborne), who came to our Heroes Day from the home of the 101st in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. We were happy to honor them here at our Heroes Day Fourth of July Celebration before they may be leaving for Afghanistan.

Our adopted soldiers and their wives charmed their way into the hearts of all of Malibu. All of this would not have been possible if it were not for the generosity of our fellow Malibuites. Ozzie Silna, who provided the plane tickets and accommodations at Casa Malibu; John Cosentino of Malibu Florists, who provided flowers; Budget Car Rentals, who provided a car for our soldiers the entire time they were here; Granita, Tra di Noi, Duke’s and Malibu Inn, who provided meals for them; Tobey and John Cotsen, who welcomed them into their home for a Fourth of July party; Linda and Steve Patterson from America Supporting Americans, who gave so generously to make this experience happen for Malibu.

Finally, we also would like to thank all the people who worked so hard to make this one of the best Malibu Fourth of July celebrations.
