The financial statements for all money raised and spent on the 2006 City Council and Measure U campaigns through March 25 were released on Thursday.

Mayor Andy Stern raised the most money, garnering $41, 657. John Mazza spent the most money, totaling $32,291.

Stern spent $26, 652. His total is second only to Mazza. Most of Mazza’s money, $25,329, was raised through a personal loan to his campaign. He was the only one of the five candidates to make a personal loan.

Mazza raised $12,400 additional money from contributors. That places him behind Councilmember Sharon Barovsky, who raised $32,259. She spent $24,045.

Ryan Embree raised $4,535 and spent $1,928. Ed Gillespie raised $1,800 and spent $1,147.

The campaign against Measure U, the proposal to increase the limitation on how many terms a council member can serve from two to three, raised $2,485 during the past month. Nineteen people donated money to the campaign, with donations ranging from $25 to $1,000. Originally, the campaign had received a $20,000 loan from former Planning Commissioner Richard Carrigan. Just less than $16,000 was spent on the campaign against Measure U.

The campaign in favor of Measure U, led by Councilmember Pamela Conley Ulich, raised enough money to put up a Web site. It was not disclosed how much money that was. Expenditures of less than $1,000 are not required to be reported.
