All three Pepperdine University monument signs on campus were lit blue to show support for World Autism Awareness Day on Thursday, April 2. A letter sent by Pepperdine senior Allison Hubbard to University President Andrew Benton encouraged the school to participate in supporting the cause that is affecting children worldwide.
The National Autism Association estimates one in 68 children are diagnosed with the developmental disorder each year, with no official cause of the disease established. Scientists report genetic predispositions are the most likely source of the disease, but also believe environmental exposures can affect a diagnosis.Â
