Most of us living on Zumirez Drive evacuated on Friday, Nov. 9, but several of our neighbors stayed. They not only protected their own homes, but also they protected the rest of our homes. Using garden hoses and whatever else they could grab, they put out the spot fires from falling embers on trees, brush and fences; in addition, they kept the fire coming up the gullies from burning ESHA. Two homes were lost, but the toll would have been much worse if they hadn’t stayed and battled this devastating fire. We owe a great debt to you eight: Frank, Robbie, John, James, Michael, Randy, Mace and Mary. Thank you!
