The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) said goodbye to yet another graduating class at Malibu High School (MHS), honoring 143 accomplished students who earned thousands of dollars in scholarships and received acceptance into some of the top schools in the country, according to a release from the school board.
The Class of 2015 was filled with successful students who not only kept up in their academics, but excelled in their community as well. MHS applauded five valedictorians and recognized 33 additional seniors as California Scholastic Foundation Lifetime Members, an achievement in which each student completed at least 160 hours of community service during their high school career.
This year’s graduates were accepted to schools nationwide. The Malibu grads plan on attending some of the top ranked schools in the country, including two Ivy Leagues: Brown University and Dartmouth College. Other notable schools include University of California, Berkeley, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara; California State University, San Francisco, San Diego, Sonoma and Channel Islands; Lewis & Clark College, Parsons School of Design, Syracuse University, Boston University, University of Southern California, Pepperdine University and Santa Monica College, according to SMMUSD.
Along with Santa Monica and Olympic High School, MHS graduates earned thousands of dollars in scholarships from organizations who celebrated their accomplishments. Local groups such as Malibu Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club were among those who donated.
