Letter: Arnold and Karen

Letter to the Editor

Before you think I am kissing up to the Yorks because they own this newspaper in which my blogs/columns appear, you should know that I do not get paid, and so my sole reward is entertaining you, my reader. (How pathetic has my life become.)

When I first moved here roughly seven years ago, I did not know a soul and had no real connection to our community. I might as well have landed in Australia. By reading The Malibu Times, I began the connecting process. By reading the paper, I quickly learned that Malibu has a strong sense of community, and through its sponsorship of The Malibu Times Candidate Education Workshop and the Citizens of the Year Dolphin Awards, TMT has supported our city in important ways.

The Malibu Times is a way above average weekly newspaper. Back in New Jersey, we had two weekly newspapers with  a reading audience many times ours, but neither paper held a candle to TMT.

Because of the team Arnold and Karen has assembled over the years, we are kept abreast of all that is happening in Malibu from sports to the arts to, of course, major news developments.

From time to time, some of our fellow Malibuites may not like the positions Arnold takes in his editorials, but Arnold always publishes contrary positions, even when they are most critical of him.

I learned a long time ago that all good things come to an end, so I read Arnold’s announcement of their impending retirement with a strong sense of sadness. The Yorks will leave behind a powerful legacy of local journalism at its finest. I trust they will continue to be part of our community, which they have helped to  flourish.

I, for one, thank them for giving me the opportunity to express my writings uncensored. Good luck to both of you.

Burt Ross
