Malibu Canyon Road and Piuma

Traffic on Malibu Canyon road was shut down in both directions Friday morning after a vehicle rolled down an embankment north of Piuma Road and caught fire, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. No one was injured, officials said.

Sgt. Masson of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s station said around 6:15 a.m. a southbound car sideswiped a northbound car, causing the northbound vehicle to fall down the embankment.

Authorities have issued a Sigalert, as the crash caused a closure in both directions stretching from Pacific Coast Highway to Piuma, according to the California Highway Patrol. It is unclear how many people were traveling in the vehicles. The southbound closure was eventually lifted and the northbound side should re-open once emergency vehicles clear out, Masson said at 8 a.m.
