The City of Malibu reopened the Michael Landon Center at Bluffs park yesterday.

Parks staff expect programs and reservations to resume as soon as possible with some starting as early as next week.

The grassy field at Bluffs Park  is closed for its bi-annual renovation.

But the rest of the park is open.

Trancas park is closed indfinately.

Fire debris must still be removed and the playground surface has to be cleaned.

The Equestrian Park is completely burned out and is closed indefinitely.

Damaged trees must be assessed there … and irrigation lines must be repaired and debris removed from destroyed storage containers.

No word yet on when the shared swimming pool at Malibu High School will reopen for student and residents.

In news from down the coast … Santa Monica has formally released its plans for the first of three massive projects on or near the Third Street promenade.

Plans for the Plaza at Santa Monica have been opposed by slow-growth activists … they say the prime site between 4th and 5th streets on Arizona Avenue would be a great place for a public park.

A draft environmental impact report proposes replacing surface parking lots and two bank buildings on Arizona Avenue with a 13 story mixed-use complex.

The Plaza At Santa Monica would be a massive 13 story condo complex on top of businesses and stores.

It is designed by world-renowned architect Ram Koolhaas .

The Plaza consists of “a series of interconnecting bars” that step back from a “grand plaza” at 5th and Arizona..

The environmental impact report has just opened for comment on the mssivve project … which would be visible from Malibu.

And in news from up the coast …. a green and leafy section of coastline just west of Santa Barbara has been purchased by a rich guy … and given to the University of California.

Billionaire Charlie Munger has purchased and gifted the historic 1,800-acre Las Varas Ranch to the university.

Highway 101 crosses Las Varas — a working cattle ranch and avocado-growing operation —

It is located on the Gaviota Coast between Naples Point and El Capitan State Beach.

The ranch stretches inland from the coastal bluff at Edwards Point to the boundary of Los Padres National Forest.

More than 500 acres of pastureland, an 18-acre lake, and fruit orchards, the land offers rich agricultural resources and exceptional educational opportunities.

UC Santa Barbara will maintain the property in its current state as a working ranch . the university says.

Munger is now 96 years old … he is the longtime business partner of Warren Buffett.
