In a project last week sponsored by Viewpoint School and the Rotary Club of Calabasas, Malibu residents and Viewpoint School seniors Devin Glass and Michael Moralian were among 30 other students who assembled hundreds of Water Pasteurization Indicators, or WAPIs, for delivery to orphanages in Iraq and Mexico.
WAPIs are four-inch, plastic tubes containing wax particles that melt in water of 149 degrees Fahrenheit to eliminate microbes carrying E. Coli, rotaviruses, Giardia, and Hepatitis C. Limited access to safe water has become a critical issue for the civilian population of both countries, and the WAPIs are estimated to arrive at the orphanages in early December.
