In relation to recent community debate regarding retail diversification in Malibu, hundreds of residents have made clear that they want their elected officials to protect the Malibu General Plan. The community has brought together its best and brightest business, legal, and cultural minds and proposes clear measures that will ensure thoughtful city retail planning moving forward.
In response, the developers’ laundry list of how they are “helping” the community is just that, a list of standard practices to maintain their own businesses – land upkeep, parking, security, etc.
All the while they are raising rents, pushing out local business owners and bringing in retail that neither serves nor reflects the people and culture of Malibu. Yard work doesn’t cut it; we need to legislate provisions that will hold accountable the people doing business in Malibu in order to protect our community.
