Santa Monica last night approves a Malibu school district … in theory.
For independence … they will continue to extract property tax subsidies from Malibu … for 50 years. And all of this subject to some arduous negotiations ahead … and only if the City of Malibu puts a hold on its separate divorce petition – which has no financial guarantees for SM at all.
So now the Malibu city council has to decide … gamble on what county bureaucrats will decide, or take the Santa Monica out of court settlement on the table.
