A 37-acre wildfire burning in La Jolla Canyon in Ventura County is 70 percent contained, according to the Ventura County Fire Department’s Web site. The fire is located just north of the Thornhill-Broome Beach. The portion of Pacific Coast Highway in the area that was closed this morning has been reopened.

The fire is currently not a threat to Malibu, said Brad Davis, the city’s emergency preparedness director.

Earlier this morning the fire was headed toward the beach in Ventura. It later collapsed over itself and is no longer moving toward the beach.

“Ventura County fire officials said there is no reason to believe it will pose a threat to Malibu,” Davis said at 11 a.m. “But remember, winds can be erratic. Things change in this game.”
