Dick Van Dyke recently introduced author and radio host Garrison Keillor at Deisel, A Bookstore.

Legendary local Dick Van Dyke has joined the Malibu Playhouse as its creative executive producer, bringing an arsenal of musical theater and acting experience to a theater program with plenty of promising shows in store.

As part of his duties, Van Dyke will consult for various performances during the 2014-2015 season, including “God of Carnage” and a Broadway tribute.

“There are great plans afoot for the coming year…’God of Carnage,’ a spring tribute to Broadway musicals, along with guest speakers, celebrity readings, acting workshops, and, of course, some sing-a-longs for the young at heart!” Van Dyke said.

Van Dyke’s wife, Arlene, has also joined the Playhouse’s advisory board to help with community outreach. She boasts years of singing and performing experience as well.

The Malibu Playhouse’s Board of Directors is excited for the new jolt of energy Van Dyke is sure to provide.

“Dick is a beloved member of both the entertainment and Malibu communities. His presence at the Playhouse is emblematic of how, going forward, we will offer consistent, quality entertainment that will appeal to theater-going audiences of all ages, locally, as well as throughout the Greater Los Angeles area,” said Andi Howard, chairperson of the Board of Directors.

The Malibu Playhouse will wrap up a five-week run of “The 39 Steps” this weekend. Next up is a special one-night benefit performance of “Love Letters,” which will star locals Sam Elliott and Katharine Ross.
