The City of Malibu will be hosting what it calls an education and outreach forum regarding onsite wastewater treatment systems (OWTS) on Tuesday, November 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Malibu City Hall, according to a press release from the city. The forum will include presentations for OWTS users, regulators and members of the business community. It will be led by the California Onsite Wastewater Association and co-sponsored by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). To register for the event or to obtain more information, go to www.cowa.org.
According to the city’s press release, the program provides “valuable guidance to all wastewater regulators on internal issues such as design plan review, technology approval processes and pursuing state and federal funds. Information for the business community includes discussions on infrastructure planning for small communities, various types of onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) inspections and the importance of contracts between stakeholders.
“The last and most important sessions are on educating system users, where the topics of discussion include how to shift the perspective from septic as a source of a pollution, to septic being a groundwater recharge solution, and the proper care and maintenance of OWTS to ensure they are meeting clean water goals.”
