Malibu residents come out in droves to enjoy the former Malibu Kiwanis Club Chili Cook-Off, Carnival & Fair, as seen here in 2017 as the sun sets on Sunday, Sept. 3.

Earlier this month, the Boys & Girls Club of Malibu announced that it would be continuing a much-loved Malibu Labor Day Weekend community tradition—the Malibu Chili Cook-Off.

The organization hopes to breathe new life into the event with new entertainment and surprises for attendees. Proceeds will be donated to BGCM’s five locations and other partners.

Of course, residents can still expect to eat delicious food and experience games, raffles and rides.

BGCM plans to have online ticketing available and implement environmental sustainability practices for the event.

An emailed statement from the organization read: “The Malibu Chili Cook-Off is an incredible Malibu tradition and the BGCM is looking forward to taking the best of the favorite historical feel and complimenting it with 21st century commodities and Malibu’s modern-day interests.”

The event space was leased at no cost to the organization by the Malibu Bay Co. For the past 36 years, the Malibu Kiwanis Club hosted the Labor Day weekend event.

The hours for this year’s event will be as follows:

  • Aug. 31 — 4-10 p.m.
  • Sept. 1 — 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Sept. 2 — 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Sept. 3 — 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Though the event website isn’t up and running just yet, anyone interested will be able to visit bgcmalibuchilicookoff.org.
