Malibu junior lifeguards take on nationals

Nine Los Angeles County Junior Lifeguards from Zuma Beach competed in the Regional Lifeguard Competition in Newport Beach July 26. The Zuma Beach Junior Lifeguards—Angela Drake, Alex Goodman, Ben Lansbury, Holly Maine, Caroline Pietrzyk, Kate Pietrzyk, Thomas Ryan and Farah Stack—will go on to compete at the United States Lifesaving Association National Championships in Manhattan Beach. 

At the regional competition, Drake, who is in the C division girls, came in fourth in the paddle relay and sixth in the individual paddle. 

Farrar, who is in the A division girls, came in fourth in the run-swim-run, third in the paddle relay and fourth in the individual distance paddle.

Goodman, who is in the A division boys, came in third in the run relay and fourth in the beach flags. 

Lansbury, who is in the C division boys, finished first in the individual distance run, second in individual distance paddle and fifth in the paddle relay. 

Maine, who is in the C division girls, came in third in the paddle relay and sixth in the individual paddle. 

Caroline Pietrzyk, who is in the A division girls, finished first in the distance run, first in the run-swim-run and third in the paddle board relay. 

Kate Pietrzyk, who is in the B division girls, competed in the run-swim-run. 

Ryan, who is in the A division boys, came in first in the paddle relay, fifth in the individual run and fifth in the individual paddle. 

Stack, who is in the A division girls, finished first in the swim relay and fifth in the individual swim.
