Several staff members of The Malibu Times offer their favorite choices/recipes to snack on during the football frenzy that is known as Super Sunday. The Seahawks will battle the Steelers on Lion’s turf-Detroit this Sunday.

Kim Devore’s Glorious Game-Winning Guacamole

5-6 large, ripe top quality Hass avocados (about 1 per person)

One medium sweet onion, chopped

4 Tbs. sour cream

Juice of 1 Myer lemon

1 Tbs. garlic powder, or to taste

1 Tbs. garlic salt, or to taste

Dash Tabasco, or to taste

3/4 cup chopped cilantro

3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese

3 ripe tomatoes chopped, seeded and gently dried on paper towels to remove excess liquid

Combine first seven ingredients and season to taste. Gently fold in cilantro, cheese and chopped tomato. Sprinkle with remaining cheese, and garnish with sprig of cilantro.

Teresa Gelbman’s Super Bean Bowl Dip

1 16 oz. can refried beans

1 8 oz. container sour cream

1 package Lawry’s taco seasoning

Spread beans evenly on a large plate or serving platter. Mix taco seasoning with the sour cream, spread on top of beans. Garnish with black olives, tomatoes, green chilies, onions, jalapenos and shredded Mexican cheeses. Chill. Serve with tortilla chips.

Marilyn Arbetman’s Artichoke Cheese Dip

1 cup artichoke hearts (canned in water)

1 cup marinated artichokes

1 cup light or regular Best Foods mayonnaise

1 cup diced green chilies

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese

Mix ingredients and put in ovenproof deep casserole dish. Cover top with grated (1/2 cup) cheddar cheese. Bake at 350 degree for 30 minutes. Serve warm with tortilla chips.

Laura Tate’s End Zone Salami Platter

1 party-platter-size Gallo Dry Italian Salami

1 8 oz. or 16 oz. package Jack cheese

1 8 oz. or 16 oz. package sharp cheddar cheese

1 package crackers

1 jar or can Kalamata Greek olives

Cut salami into 1/4-inch slices. Cut cheeses into 1-inch cubes. Arrange ingredients on large serving platter; place olives in middle, cheese circling olives. Arrange salami and crackers circling cheese.

For those who fumbled before the big day and forgot to shop for the necessary ingredients for a sublime football fantasy dish, a quick trip to the local grocery store will put you back in the game. Here, Kathy purchased a string bean hearts of palm salad at Ralphs.
