Café Habana at the Malibu Lumber Yard may soon have a new neighbor, with developer Glimcher Realty Trust looking to expand its conditional use permit (CUP) for the restaurant space located above the Cuban restaurant owned by Rande Gerber.
According to the meeting agenda report for the upcoming Malibu Planning Commission meeting on Monday, April 7, Schmitz and Associates is looking to expand the service area of the vacant restaurant space at the Malibu Lumber Yard on Cross Creek Road from 699 square feet to 2,899 square feet.
The current CUP, which was adopted in 2007, allowed for two restaurants with a total service area of 2,000 square feet. Since that time, only one restaurant, Café Habana, has opened on the premises. That space was later approved to expand its outdoor area to encompass a total of 1,301 square feet of service area, leaving 699 square feet zoned for the second, currently vacant, restaurant space to use.
The proposed permit amendment also includes provisions that 12 additional parking spaces will be required to account for the additional commercial space.
The Malibu Planning Commission is set to discuss this proposed amendment at its upcoming meeting, Monday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Council Chambers in Malibu City Hall. To view the agenda report, visit here.
