Lucky to be able to vote

My husband and I lived overseas in many countries while he worked for the State Department. He dealt with governments which could not compare with our government in any way. Now back in the states we are shocked and saddened to find that in almost every one of the countries (Colombia, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, etc) the percentage of people who voted was considerably higher than the percentage of even the “registered voters” voting here in the U.S.

Some of the foreign countries had very weak educational opportunities, and yet the citizens really appreciated the right to vote. Some people had to walk long distances to get to the polling places. They made the effort in large numbers despite hardships.

With our well educated citizenry, it really is pretty disgraceful that so few “bother” to vote. The percentage of Malibuites who voted in our election March 5 was pretty pathetic. Hopefully, we Malibu citizens will recognize our privilege and duty to vote in the April 9 election for our city council. Five very capable individuals are competing for two positions on the council so it is not a complicated election. They all deserve your careful consideration.

Please be sure to vote April 9.
