Malibu Optimist Club honored 20 local students as part of the club’s annual Youth Appreciation Week breakfast. Each student was individually honored by Malibu Optimist Club President Tarek Shraibati and master of ceremonies Craig Foster at the event, co-sponsored by Pepperdine Crest Associates.
The students were nominated by each school for “their outstanding citizenship and scholarship.” LA County Sheriff deputies Jake Merrifield, Rudy Torrantegui and Dave Diestel took the student to Malibu City Hall and LA County Lifeguard Headquarters.
The honorees were as follows:
- Juan Cabrillo—Declan O’Bryan and Tallula Murphree
- Point Dume Marine Science—Nico Mastrippolito
- Webster—Grant Folkerts and Rain Charvet
- Our Lady of Malibu—Ivory Calabria, Johnny Backus, Luke Webster and India Cortese
- Malibu Middle School—David Coppola, Callie Randall and Drake Dejute-Erickson
- Malibu High School—Brady Leib, Sarah Green, Sarah McKenzie, Whitney Clarfield, Sarah Myers, William Hammond, Emely Tario and Gabi Cano
