This is a community alert warning regarding the Crystal Energy Clear Water Port Facility, an intentionally misleading name if ever there was one, now in the works for Malibu. This LNG (liquid natural gas) facility known as Crystal Energy Clear Port is slated to be installed on an old rusting oil platform that is almost 30 years old located only miles off of our shores. This platform is called Grace which is another euphemism considering its state of decay and its intended purpose. Last week there was a gas leak on a much newer platform off the coast of Carpenteria where many people had to be evacuated! This newer platform called Gail is owned by the same people that own Grace!
In a recent communication from Crystal Energy we have learned that Crystal Energy is also planning to use this aging Grace Platform as an oil platform and a fish farm!
Doesn’t anybody care, take notice or put two and two together out there? Do you want to look out your windows and see a big white ball atop a rusting platform off our shores and a constant flow of oil tankers or worse walk an oil sodden beach from a leaking platform or ship? How can we who so clearly love and revere the environment the seashore and a healthy food chain and who are so blessed to live in this special place called Malibu sit back and allow this ill conceived plan to go forward? Does anybody out there care? If you do it is imperative to act now. What can you do to make a difference? WRITE LETTERS, lots of letters and mail them, fax them and email them to the following list of people: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (http://www.govmail.ca.gov); Oxnard Mayor Dr. Manuel M. Lopez (manuel.lopez@ci.oxnard.ca.us); Oxnard Mayor Pro Tem Dean Maulhardt (deancity@yahoo.com); Oxnard Councilman Bedford Pinkard (bedford.pinkard@ci.oxnard.ca.us); Oxnard Councilmember John C. Zaragoza (john.zaragoza@verizon.net); Oxnard Councilmember Andres Herrera (andres.herrera@ci.oxnard.ca.us); and Dwight E. Sanders, Division Chief Environmental Planning, State Lands Commission (sanderd@slc.ca.gov).
Get your friends and neighbors involved and anyone else who cares about protecting our coastline. Don’t let this ‘Crystal’ project happen here! This is a slippery slope and Malibu desperately needs your help. Please do all you can to save our coastal waters and beaches!
