Pepperdine Waves alum, Sean Rooney, has been chosen to play for the USA men’s volleyball team in the 2012 Olympics in London. The U.S. men’s team is looking to defend its title as Olympic champions and is ranked sixth in the world.

Rooney graduated from Pepperdine University in 2005 with a degree in business administration. During his time playing for the Waves, he helped lead his team to the 2005 NCAA National Championship and was awarded a bronze medal at the World University Games. In 2004, he was named Volleyball Magazine’s Player of the year. By the end of his college career, Rooney ranked second nationally among NCAA Division I-II Players in points per game. He was a four-time AVCA All-American, only the seventh male student-athlete to do so.

Since his time at Pepperdine, Rooney has been competing professionally around the world.

Rooney is originally from Wheaton, Ill., and attended Wheaton-Warrenville South High School. He was named the 2001 Illinois State Player of the year and led his team to a state championship.
