Local dance instructor M.C. Callaghan is using her ballroom knowledge to help the animals at Wednesday’s “Dancing for the Dogs” event.

Callaghan will be providing swing and salsa lessons at the Sunset Restaurant to start an evening of dancing to benefit nearby animal shelters.

She is asking attendees to bring a bag of dog food or dog treats to be donated to the St. Martin’s Animal Foundation in Acton and Save A Pet in Desert Hot Springs. Bringing a bag of dog food will also earn attendees an entry into a raffle for a free, private dance lesson from Callaghan.

A portion of the $15 cover charge will also be donated to the shelters.

Callaghan has been a ballroom dance instructor at the Michael Landon Center in Bluffs Park since its opening in the ‘90s. She has previously held fundraisers to help shelters at the Malibu Pier.

Dancing for the Dogs kicks off Wednesday, June 19, at 7:15 p.m., at the Sunset Restaurant, 6800 Westward Beach Road, Malibu. RSVP requested at 760-771-9050 or mc4dance@sbcglobal.net.
