As part of Juan Cabrillo Elementary School’s Visiting Artist series, Joe Sichta came to the school and presented his art, philosophy and creative animation process. The local’s notable projects include the “Scooby Doo” DVD movies, “How to Train Your Dragon” and the “Muppet Babies” (airing soon on Disney Jr.). Sichta then visited the school’s art studio for animation and drawing lessons.
The Visiting Art Series is coordinated by teacher Nicole Fisher, with support from the city’s Arts Commission. Past visiting artists include a variety of locals: architect Michael Burke, poet laureate Ricardo Means Ybarra and portrait painter Johanna Spinks.
