Pepperdine sophomore Luisa Stefani finished in the runner-up spot at the Oracle/ITA Masters tennis tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Malibu Racquet Club.
Stefani, who came into the tournament ranked No. 2 in the singles rankings, fell to Ena Shibahara, a competitor from UCLA. Shibahara was ranked No. 2 in the newcomer/freshman preseason rankings.
Stefani dominated the weekend tournament up until her Sunday loss, overcoming four opponents including three who were nationally ranked.Â
Sitilia Rencheli of Quinnipiac fell to Stefani 6-1, 6-0 on Thursday, Oct. 13. On Friday came a matchup against nationally ranked No. 64 Ksenia Laskutova of Tulsa, who lost 6-3, 6-1. That same day, Stefani continued her winning streak while taking on No. 54 Blair Shankle of Baylor.
By all accounts her most stunning victory came on Saturday, when Stefani defeated No. 1 ranked Hayley Carter of North Carolina.
