Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades is offering a new volunteer training opportunity beginning July 14.

Volunteers will be given various opportunities and perks, such as reduced admission to California museums and free parking for up to a year, in exchange for 40 hours of voluntary service.

Training includes learning more information about the grounds, historic landscape and the Santa Monica Mountains in order to indulge visitors in an in depth manner. Volunteers will also be given the opportunity to lead house tours, grounds tours, greeting visitors, gardening and restoration. Along with the number of opportunities and teachings provided, information about safety procedures for volunteers is also given.

The training will be held on six Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will start their training with a free breakfast (bagels, rolls, coffee) given by park staff.

The park is celebrated and widely known for its spacious, scenic landscape and family-friendly activities such as ranch house tours, picnics and hiking trails. Originally owned by one of the highest paid actors during the 1930s, Will Rogers’ wife, Betty, donated the ranch to California State Parks in 1944 shortly after his death, according to the California Department of Parks and Recreation. Since then, the ranch has become a state historic park and is acknowledged as a household name.
