Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky was honored with the American Hero Award on Jan. 29 for his efforts to prepare against natural disasters.
The award, issued by ProtectingAmerica.org, a large coalition of first responders, emergency management experts, businesses and insurers, is presented to individuals who have made a significant contribution to preparing and protecting families and communities from the devastation of massive natural catastrophes.
Yaroslavasky “quickly emerged as a leader on public safety matters,” ProtectingAmerica.org stated in a recent press release. “Given his hands-on experience with the Northridge Earthquake as well as the fires, storms and other disaster-related events that occur annually, he believes that community preparedness allows for effective response and more efficient recovery.”
Award recipients also included members of the California Emergency Management Agency; Dr. Charles Reed, chancellor, California State University System; the Orfalea Fund and Orfalea Family Foundation; and Assemblyman Pedro Nava of Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
