The Malibu High School boys basketball team is hosting a first-round playoff game this week on Wednesday against Ventura County Christian. The Sharks (17-9) are seeded No. 3 in the Division V-A tournament.
Malibu, which finished second this season in the Frontier League, has been led by seniors Chris Peck and Ryan Walczuk and sophomore Chandler Abbott. They are each averaging more than 15 points per game. The Sharks enter the postseason on a six-game winning streak, including a 55-54 victory against No. 2 St. Bonaventure of Ventura on Feb. 6. The win not only clinched the Sharks’ second place finish in the Frontier League, it ruined St. Bonaventure’s bid for an undefeated league season and top seed in the playoffs.
If Malibu wins its playoff opener, the Sharks would likely play Friday against Cornerstone Christian of Wildomar. A coin flip would determine the site of the game.
Malibu’s girls water polo and boys soccer teams are also hosting playoff games this week. The water polo team plays on Thursday and the boys soccer squad competes on Friday. To find out the start times for the games, call Malibu High School at 310.457.6801.
