Seems like half of Malibu’s A-listers jumped to the other coast to see and be seen at the Met Gala.
The theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion” and queen of camp Cher was up front and center. She surprised the crowd by belting out favorites like “Believe” and “If I Could Turn Back Time.” Miley Cyrus couldn’t be missed, but it was our Lady Gaga who stole the show with four red carpet changes alone. She arrived in what looked to be like an enormous fuchsia tent, accompanied by an entourage of gents carrying umbrellas. Next, with a sly quick change, the artist slipped off her covering to unveil a billowy black dress and, within minutes, the show went on. Gaga followed up with a flashy pink number, which was accessorized with a retro Motorola phone and oversized Linda Farrow shades. For the grand finale, she stripped down to her lacy knickers and towering stiletto boots, and slipped inside for the festivities.
“Titanic” superstar Celine Dion looked like a giant holiday sparkler with a huge headpiece. (Though with this first class fashionista, it must have been more like another day at the office.) Katy Perry came encased in an elaborate Moschino glass chandelier and towering headgear, which begs the question: How do you sit in that? Obviously, you can’t, which means, after the jaw-dropping flashy fashion display, dangerous objects were removed. One can easily see why Katy felt comfier in outfit number two, where she transformed herself into a giant cheeseburger. Extra pickles, please! Even the fabulous Jenner sisters had trouble keeping up with this crowd.
No question, this was one of the wildest red carpets ever and unlike anything you’ll see again anytime soon. The event benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute.

peaking of Cher—who has had a nonstop schedule with working on films like “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” an ABBA-inspired album, touring and galas—the beat goes on with another important date on her calendar. On May 20, the legendary diva celebrates her 73rd birthday. Congrats! We’ve got you, babe. While we are at it, let’s not forget two other locals of note who have hit a milestone. Power couple Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, both 62, are marking 31 years of wedded bliss. Rita shared her feelings with a Facebook post, which read, “As long as there is a spark you’ll always have a fire. I love you, Tom.”

Longtime local Rhea Perlman teamed up with Diane Keaton to lead a senior cheerleading squad at their retirement community. For the “Cheers” star, it was an uplifting experience as she expressed in interviews.
As the Poms girls liked to say in the movie: “Have the time of your life for the rest of your life.” Sound advice at any age.
