The Malibu Senior Center celebrates its sweet 16 with a 16th anniversary party on Thursday, April 18, complete with performances by talented tap and ballet dancers, followed by a luncheon reception.

Those attending the 16th annual Malibu Senior Center anniversary party on Thursday afternoon had a rockin’ time. The festivities began with dance performances by students enrolled in the center’s dance classes. The recital was long awaited after a postponement.

“The participants in the tap and ballet dance classes had been rehearsing their routines preparing for the Senior Center’s annual Winter Showcase; however, it was sadly cancelled due to the Woolsey Fire,“ Lisa Arcidiacono Crespo, City of Malibu recreation coordinator, explained. “We wanted to create an opportunity for them to perform the routines they had been working so hard on and showcase their handmade costumes. Once senior center programs resumed fully in January, the anniversary party seemed to be the perfect time to have the performance, and celebrate the senior center’s energy and resilience.”

Tap dancers and ballerinas put their energy into entertaining the audience, receiving an enthusiastic response after each performance. Once the program was complete, attendees headed to the senior center multipurpose room. There, they listened to live music by the Midnight Ride while snacking on an array of appetizers and sipping on refreshments. The afternoon festivities included raffle prizes from sponsors.

“The anniversary party was a great day. Community members came together to celebrate senior programs, honor volunteers and enjoy performance pieces. This annual event brings together seniors from all of our programs and celebrates the community we have built here at the senior center,” Crespo said.
