Just after defeating Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, the Waves took home their second win in a row Monday afternoon against CSU Bakersfield. Senior captain Allie Green put up an oustanding 21 points for Pepperdine Monday, but the Roadrunners followed close behind —bringing the two teams neck-to-neck during the final moments.
Hillside, NJ native Yasmine Robinson-Bacote made two free throws late in the fourth, bringing the Waves’ lead to four. After two free throws by CSU Bakersfield and a costly turnover by the Waves, the game was tied at 50-50 with just 1:39 left on the clock. One layup from Robinson-Bacote at the 32.8 seconds mark reclaimed the lead for the Waves, but another from the Roadrunners with just 6.2 seconds left sent the players into overtime.
The Waves eventually held off the Roadrunners long enough to claim a five point lead in overtime, ending the match with a 62-57 win.
Directly after the holidays, the Waves will begin its conference play on the Dec. 29, hosting Gonzaga at home.
