Pepperdine University alumnus David Brinkman recently received the second annual Pepperdine University Waves of Service Award, which includes a $5,000 check to Desert AIDS Project, where Brinkman serves as president and CEO.
The Waves of Service award was first given out in 2009. It recognizes Pepperdine alumni who are committed to volunteerism and careers of service worldwide.
“I am humbled-and completely surprised-that D.A.P. and I were chosen for this honor,” Brinkman said. “I had no idea we were even being considered. Since my first job at Cascade AIDS Project in Portland, I’ve had a passion for social justice, particularly around the cause of HIV/AIDS because I’ve lost so many friends to it. It’s wonderful that Waves of Service is recognizing the essential work of important organizations like Desert AIDS Project.”
Brinkman received a Master’s of Business Administration from Pepperdine’s Graziadio School of Business and Management in 2002. He joined the Desert AIDS Project in 2006 and provides administration and fiscal oversight of all agency programs and services, as well as leadership in strategic planning and community collaboration.
The award was given to Brinkman during Pepperdine’s Waves Weekend, which combined homecoming, parents weekend and other activities to celebrate the university’s 75th anniversary.
