Thank you for the informational article in the Jan. 23 Malibu Times about the new foundation SOAR. Two clarifications, please: First, the foundation’s name SOAR stands for Sharing Opportunities Assisting Recovery. At first, the “S” in SOAR stood for Seminole Springs where we lost 110 homes out of 215 in the Woolsey Fire. However, as the foundation takes flight, we are finding significant need in the broader Woolsey scar area, including Malibu; thus, the “S” now stands for “Sharing.”

The second clarification concerns our angel benefactors. Our playground is the first rebuilt space at Seminole Springs. A significant portion of the playground rebuild funds came from the generous Malibu Foundation, headed by Evelin Weber. Other generous donors included Habitat, LA Rams and Conejo Cares. We are deeply grateful for the ways in which all of our angel benefactors have supported us. They are the inspiration for SOAR, an organization whose mission is to provide disaster relief to individuals and families as they try to hold on through the recovery process.
