Malibu SAR Responds to Vehicle Over the Side of Little Sycamore Canyon

Two people were successfully rescued from a car over the side of Little Sycamore Canyon early Friday morning.

Just before 12:40 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, a white Toyota Yaris was reported to have driven over the side of Little Sycamore Canyon across from Mulholland Hwy., according Malibu Search and Rescue (SAR) Team.

Malibu SAR, L.A. County Fire Department, L.A. Sheriff’s Department Deputies and California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported to the scene where they found the vehicle more than 200 feet over the side of the canyon.

The vehicle was occupied by a man and a woman, both in their 20s. Both victims were hoisted from the canyon by helicopter, and the female victim was flown to UCLA Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. The male driver suffered no known injuries.

Units completed the rescue around 2:30 a.m. The accident remains under investigation by CHP.

The rescue marks Malibu SAR’s 97th call for service in 2015, making it equal to the unit’s call volume for all of 2014.
