Malibu High School psychology students had a surprise visit from Pepperdine professor Mike Folkerts who brought human brains and a spinal cord to Andy Meyer’s class last week. Meyer said, “During the semester we study the interaction between biology and behavior. We spend some time specifically on the brain and behavior, Mike’s an expert on brain injuries and it’s nice to have him come and share his expertise.”
After Folkerts’ lecture, students had the opportunity to pick up a human brain, left and right hemispheres and spinal cord with plastic gloves. Meyer added, “To be able to hold the brain, something that at one time contained someone’s thoughts, feelings, dreams and personality, is an experience that many of them won’t ever forget.”
