New charges filed against Ferrari crash suspect

City prosecutors in Los Angeles have added misdemeanor hit-and-run charges to those already facing Stefan Eriksson, the confessed driver in the Enzo Ferrari crash Feb. 21 on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that Eriksson is being charged for driving a Porsche Cayenne into the back of another car in Westwood a month before he gained notoriety with the Malibu wreck.

Eriksson remains in Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail, unable to post bail due to a federal immigration charge. He faces charges of drunk driving and making false statements to a law officer as a result of the Malibu crash as well as felony embezzlement and theft charges.

L.A. County Fire to hold annual ‘Fill the Boot’ fundraiser

The Los Angeles County Fire Department, including members of local Malibu stations, will be collecting donations on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in its annual “Fill the Boot” campaign on May 18, 19 and 20.

Firefighters will be collecting money at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Webb Way from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Mail carriers to collect for food banks

The public is asked to leave nonperishable food in a bag next to their mailboxes on Saturday so mail carriers can collect them and deliver the items to food banks. The program, which will take place nationwide, is in its 14th year.

Poll volunteers needed

Los Angeles County is looking for people to volunteer as poll workers for the June 6 primary election. Assistance is needed at locations throughout the county. Those interested in working at the polls should call 800.815.2666 and select option seven. A volunteer application form can be found at www.lavote.net.

Deadline approaching for seniors to apply for Measure S exemption

Applications for exemptions from the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Measure S $225 parcel tax are due by July 31.

To qualify for the exemption, one must be 65 years old by June 30 and own and occupy their property as their primary residence. Seniors who previously received the exemption are being mailed renewal forms this month. Those who have not previously received the exemption can request an application from the school district by calling 458.8388 ext. 269 or the form can be downloaded from the district’s Web site at www.smmusd.org. When on the site, one should click “Senior Exemption” and then “Application for Senior Exemption.”
