Local actress and author Joan Benedict Steiger signed and read from her autobiography “Brooklyn Baby: A Hollywood Insider’s Amazing Journey Through Love, Loss, & Laughter” at Room at the Beach on Saturday afternoon. Malibu locals, neighbors and visitors were captivated as they listened to tales of her past adventures and passions.

Malibu resident and Room at the Beach owner Elizabeth Lamont has known Steiger for a number of years.

“I was delighted to invite Joan Steiger to debut her new book, ‘Brooklyn Baby,’ at Room at the Beach,” she shared. “Joan has been a longtime client and a wonderful personality in the Malibu community, and I am so happy to have her book signing at my shop.”

Steiger spent time signing books before and after the reading, while guests sipped on champagne and dined on light appetizers from Monrose Catering.

“I have lived in Malibu for over 20 years — I am a huge fan of our artistic community,” Lamont explained. “Local authors, artists and musicians are our favorites. We do lots of gallery shows, too.”

Room at the Beach hosts events throughout the year for the community to get acquainted with the work of local authors, artists, chefs and more, including an upcoming summer series.
