The following incidents were reported between 9/29 – 11/7:

9/29

Beach burglar

A pair of sunglasses worth $250, Apple earpods and an iPhone were stolen from a vehicle parked on Topanga Canyon. The victim said he left his backpack on the sand with his car keys, went surfing and, upon return, his keys were missing and his vehicle was ransacked. The victim was informed his credit cards were used for a $3,488 purchase at an electronics store.

Surfer snatch

Deputies responded to a vehicle burglary near the Malibu Pier. The victim hid the car key on the rear passenger tire and left the key fob unattended while surfing. Upon return, the key was missing and his vehicle was ransacked. A designer watch worth $2,500, a backpack and miscellaneous computer items worth $4,000 were stolen. The deputy said there was no visible damage to the vehicle.

Broken glass

Deputies responded to a vandalism to a retail business on Cross Creek Road. A glass window worth $14,000 was smashed; however, the suspects were unable to gain access to the store. The victim was advised to provide the security footage to the Malibu/ Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station when it becomes available.

PCH petty theft

Deputies responded to a vehicle burglary on the north side of Pacific Coast Highway across from an eastern Malibu restaurant. The back right passenger window was smashed and the vehicle was ransacked. Black sunglasses, Apple airpods and makeup products were stolen. 

Laptop larceny

A window of a vehicle parked near a Civic Center restaurant was smashed and a backpack containing a laptop and other work related material was stolen. The laptop was worth $1,000.

Hoppy heist

Four Hispanic males entered a CVS on Malibu Road and stole three 12-packs of Modelo beer. The employee tried to block the path for the fourth male, but the suspect immediately released the case of beer and ran out the door.

Burglary

A television worth $400 was stolen from an apartment complex on Seagull Way in Malibu. There were no security cameras available for evidence.

Dirty deed

An unknown amount of dirt was stolen from a private property on Birdview Avenue. The victim told deputies her home was burned in the wildfires and the only thing left over was dirt and gravel. The victim said the suspect entered her property with a wheel barrel and removed an unknown amount of road dirt gravel. The deputies advised the victim to install cameras, fences or “No Trespassing” signs on her property.

Reader beware

Deputies responded to a burglary at an eastern Malibu restaurant on Pacific Coast Highway. The victim said two males driving an Audi sports car smashed the window to another car, ransacked the vehicle and drove off. The suspect stole a Kindle tablet, reading glasses, checkbooks and $500 cash.

Grand garage theft

Approximately $37,850 worth of home appliances were stolen from an open garage and patio on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. Tools, furniture, workout equipment, televisions and various home decorations were stolen.
