The Malibooz performed prior to The Quarrymen, John Lennon’s original band from Liverpool, at a fundraiser contest on Oct. 1 at Our Lady of Malibu. The Quarrymen ended their set by bringing The Malibooz on stage to join them in singing Eddie Cochran’s “20 Flight Rock,” the song that Paul McCartney had played at a church fete 53 years ago, to get into the band. The concert was performed in memory of Monsignor John Sheridan and Sister Mary Campbell and to celebrate Lennon’s 70th birthday. Funds were raised for Our Lady of Malibu School. In a strong showing of community involvement, the Zambetti family produced the show with Our Lady of Malibu volunteers and sponsors that included The Malibu Times.
The Quarrymen are guest contributors on the Malibooz’ new album “Queens’ English.”
