Robert Jennings Spangle recently graduated from the United States Marine Corps boot camp at MCRD San Diego. Spangle, 18, is a lifelong Malibu resident and 2007 graduate of Malibu High School. During his senior year, he successfully completed the Marine Corps’ eight-month Delayed Entry Program to prepare for the rigors of boot camp.
While in basic training, Spangle earned the second-highest physical training score and the highest swim rating in his platoon. He was also selected as a platoon artist, and chosen from more than 450 recruits as one of four persons to serve in the color guard. His platoon was awarded first place in the final drill.
Spangle will enter the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton on Jan. 15 for the next phase of his training. He is the oldest son of Malibuites Katherine V. Row and Henry Bryan Spangle.
